How many times have you cursed because you saw a low battery indication at your smartphone while on the go? Sandberg has released a gadget that promises to eliminate devices running out of battery when you really need them with the Sandberg Powerbank 8000.
Sandberg was founded in 1985 and their headquarters are located in Denmark. The product range covers everything for the home and business – from cables and headset to wireless networking. Sandberg mainly specializes in networking products, IT and AV cables, plug-ins and audio.
Let’s take a quick look at the Powerbank’s main specifications:
Capacity: 8000 mAh
Input voltage: 5 V
Output voltage: 5 V
Input current: 1000 mA
Output current: 2000 mA
Connectors: 1 x Mini USB female, 2 USB A female
Charging time: 8-9 hours by AC adapter / 16-18 hours by PC
Package and Accessories
The Sandberg Powerbank 8000 comes in a plastic transparent box, from which you can see the Powerbank main unit along with the adapters included. At the back side of the box there is a brief description of the Powerbank in various languages, along with the box contents.
Apart from the main unit, inside the package we can find a total of six adapters which can be used to charge various types of mobile phones, iPhones, iPods and PSP units. There is also a USB cable included that is used to charge the Powerbank or charge the devices.
Of course, there is also the User Manual included, as well as a card informing users about a contest running at Sandberg’s website.
A Closer Look –
The Sandberg Powerbank 8000 follows a simple design pattern, but surely gets points for its small dimensions. For an 8000 mAh battery it is surely considered small. At the top side there is only one button, which shows the battery charge levels when pressed. At the front side we can see the two USB ports through which we can charge two devices at the same time. Finally, at the left side of the Powerbank, we can see an ‘IN’ slot which can be used to charge the battery using the supplied USB cable.
At the above picture, we can see the Powerbank 8000 in action, charging our Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos mobile phone. Getting the unit to work is a piece of cake; you just find the correct adaptor from the bundle, connect it at the supplied USB cable and afterwards connect the device that you want to charge with the Powerbank using the cable.
Performance and Verdict
There are two ways of recharging the Sandberg Powerbank 8000 , using an AC adapter or a computer USB port. During our tests, we decided to use both to check the recharging times, from depleted battery to full charge:
- Powerbank charged by AC adapter: 8 hours
- Powebank charged by USB port: 17,5 hours
Sandberg claims a 6-8 hour charge for AC and a 16-18 hour charge for USB, so they are quite accurate in their claims.
The Sandberg Powerbank 8000 managed to fully recharge our reference Samsung smartphone a total of six times, which is very satisfactory, considering that using this gadget could cover your mobile power needs for a week. Of course, the number of charges always depends on the battery capacity of the device you are intending to charge.
Costing around 90.00EUR across Europe, it will seem expensive for the average user, but you surely get what you pay for: a high-capacity mobile battery that will surely fullfil your needs, especially if you are using modern power-hungry smartphones that can barely last for a day of regular use. Combine that with the simple but solid build quality and the ease of use and you surely have a killer gadget in your hands.
Note that there is the alternative of the Powerbank 3000, which is significantly cheaper with a lower capacity.
(+) Simple design with solid build quality
(+) High 8000maH battery capacity
(+) Easy to use
(+) Can charge two devices at the same time
(+) Plenty of adapters included
(-) Price, but you get what you pay for
Thus, we can surely give the Sandberg Powerbank 8000 our Performance award.
