A Closer Look
The Dell U2311H comes in a hard big package to prevent it from damage during shipping.
Apart from the actual monitor, inside the package you will find also a Dell software CD, the User Manual, and warranty instructions. The bundle also includes a power cable, a DVI cable and a D-SUB cable.
Despite being a budget model, the U2311H is well made with a nice black finish. At the back side of the panel you will find all the connection interfaces the monitor has to offer. The connection interfaces include a VGA 15-pin D-SUB, a DisplayPort, a DVI interface, but unfortunately no HDMI, which is quite odd. There is also a 4-port USB 2.0 hub.
Using the very functional stand, you can rotate the monitor and even put it totally at vertical position. Practically, you can set the monitor at any angle you wish using the ergonomical stand which is a nice feature to have.
Picture Quality, Response and Games
During our tests with the Dell U2311H we noticed a little miss of black. We strongly recommend to install the software that comes with the package. Generally, the playback of movies was smooth and enjoyable to watch. Furthermore, the images could be easily viewed from any angle without any distortions.
The games we tested played properly, without any ghosting or lag, despite the 8ms response time. It is true that the new IPS panel really nakes a difference in the quality produced.
So all in all, the Dell U2311H offers a great quality standard for the money. We also measured the power consuption of the monitor:
The power consumption is actually lower than average for an IPS panel, which is also a plus for the Dell’s monitor.
Costing around 270 euros in Europe, the Dell U2311H is a good bargain. It offers good picture quality, viewable from many angles, thanks to the IPS panel and it is very ergonomic with the functional stand. Despite the 8ms response time, multimedia playback was smooth and there was no ghosting noticed during gaming. The little loss of black was not something annoying, but it was something to notice. We were a bit frustrated however at the lack of an HDMI port, which we feel should exist at that type of monitor. Taking the price into consideration, the U2311H is a very good 23” monitor to acquire, if you don’t need an HDMI port.

Thus, we give the Dell U2311H a rating of 8.0/10 and our Value For Money Award.
