Over the years, using fans of various sizes and specifications has been the most popular way to efficiently cool the system, apart from water-cooling which is of course more expensive. One of the most used fan sizes is the 140mm fans, which are used either on a CPU heatsink or mounted inside the PC case. Here at Mega Labs, we decided to make a 140mm fan roundup to present our readers with benchmarks from various 140mm fans.
Generally speaking, a fan is ‘judged’ by two factors:
- Airflow and Cooling Efficiency
- Noise Levels
It is well known that the more powerful the fan will be, the more noisy it will be. However, there are companies that specialise in making high-performance low-noise cooling fans by using sophisticated technology. These fans have the ability to efficiently reduce the temperature of a PC system, while being quiet enough so that their operation will not disturb the user. Of course, the noise levels produced are related to the RPM that the fan operates, with some fans having the option to reduce or increase their RPM on the user’s will, according to the system’s cooling needs.
The fan models that took part in the contest are:
- Noiseblocker BlackSilentPro PK2
- Noiseblocker BlackSilentPro PK3

Test Setup and Procedures
We did not make the tests with the fans installed in a PC case or on a CPU heatsink, as many factors can alter airflow and temperature. Instead, all the measurements were done on a bench table with an air temperature of 22 degrees celsius, and with the fans operating at maximum voltage.
We used the following tools to measure airflow and sound levels:
- Kestrel 4500-Anemometer
So it is quite understandable that the test included:
- Airflow test
- Noise measurement
- Price Comparison
At our airflow test, the Noiseblocker PK-3 was a clear winner, delivering the maximum CFM, with the Enermax Apollish Vegas following closely. Of course, the fans designed especially for silent operation did not offer maximum airflow, as they are designed for low noise levels.
At our sound tests, the Enermax T.B. Silence proved to be the most silent fan, with Xigmatek’s and Antec’s fans following.
At the above diagram we see a price comparison between the fans, to take an idea on how the fans cost. As you can see, there are choices for everyone’s pocket, starting from 10 euros and topping at 25.
So the above tests conclude our 140mm fan roundup. Below we present you with the results of the 140mm fan roundup:
Noiseblocker BlackSilentPro PK2 and BlackSilentPro PK3
These have a ridiculously high airflow and air pressure-to-noise level, and silence enthusiasts out there should take haste to give these a shot! They also look great, due to their dark colours, especially the models that come with LED lighting. Both 140mm versions achieved maximum performance, and either model would be a great choice for your particular application, either for a case or a radiator setup. Innovative aerodynamics is also combined with details as all-sleeved cabling and plenty of appropriate and useful accessories to top it all off.
Enermax Apollish Vegas
The specific moves a ton of air, especially at full speed. The included hardware allows to control rpm and noise. It is a high-quality product constructed and this is obvious by the time you will hold it in your hands. The price may seem high but it is totally worth the money.
Phobya Nano G-14
Unique Color, extra low price, and lot of airflow. Very nice high-quality bearings, along with a solid well-made structure. This fan hardly vibrates at all and for the price we have to admit that it is a real bargain.
